The expansion and redevelopment of TRUMPF Macchine Italia’s headquarters in Lonigo was conceived to support the company’s production growth through a comprehensive reorganisation of its manufacturing, office and training spaces, while redefining the architectural identity of the site.

The project involved extending the existing manufacturing facility and constructing a new two-storey office building following the demolition of the former offices. The new layout comprises three functionally distinct yet architecturally coordinated volumes: the existing single-storey building, repurposed as a pre-assembly area and partly as a warehouse; the new single-storey production facility, located at the centre of the site; and the office building facing the main road, accommodating administrative functions, sales network support and staff training activities.

The new configuration reshapes the original hierarchy of the complex, visually setting back the existing building and assigning the office volume a representative role as the interface between the company and its urban surroundings. The arrangement of the buildings also rationalises circulation and logistics, while maintaining clear connections between production areas, storage facilities, offices and support spaces.

From an architectural perspective, the project seeks to balance the technical character of the industrial facility with the ambition to create a contemporary, precise and distinctive identity. The dark surfaces of the original building establish a dialogue with the new horizontally profiled metal cladding, combined with a high-performance external thermal insulation system. Large full-height glazed openings articulate the façades, maximise natural light and establish a visual connection between the workplaces and the surrounding outdoor areas. In the evening, interior lighting gives the office façade a transparent and luminous appearance, conveying the vitality and technological nature of the activities taking place within.

The interior design integrates functional requirements, environmental performance and corporate identity. In the production areas and showroom, the precast reinforced concrete structure has been left exposed, while the continuous grey epoxy resin flooring provides strength, durability and ease of maintenance. A bright green strip, reflecting TRUMPF’s corporate colours, identifies pedestrian routes, supports wayfinding and contributes to the safe management of internal circulation.

The offices and training rooms were designed to ensure high levels of visual and acoustic comfort. Slatted ceilings and sound-absorbing baffles with integrated LED lighting control sound reverberation and enhance the overall quality of the working environment. Large glazed surfaces maximise natural light and connect the office and training areas with the surrounding landscape. The break area was conceived as an informal space for relaxation and social interaction, characterised by a minimalist design and a preserved green wall that introduces a natural element into the building.

The project has created a cohesive, efficient and distinctive production complex in which architecture and engineering contribute to the quality of the spaces, the optimisation of operational processes and the creation of an identity consistent with TRUMPF’s core values of precision, innovation and technology—translating them into built form.
