The new unified hospital, designed by Studio Calvi for the architecture and structures and TEKNE for the technical systems, has a total of 68 double patient rooms, for the departments of internal medicine, general surgery, gynecology and obstetrics, orthopedics-traumatology. The diagnostic and therapeutic services are organized in an emergency room, a health center, a day surgery, endoscopy and dialysis units, clinical laboratories and imaging labs. The hospital consists of two linear buildings, oriented in the direction eastwest and north-south, which converge in a ā€œLā€ shape; both of the buildings spread over 4 floors above ground, while the operating block is located in the basement, occupying an area of 1.000 sqm. The project has faced many of the themes that characterize the recent debate on the design of health facilities, with original and innovative solutions. Compliance with the parameters fixed by the recent regional legislation in terms of reducing energy consumption, in particular, has been reflected in a series of interventions for the thermal and acoustic insulation of facades. The project saw the creation of the first surgical unit ever made in Italy with fully modular radiant walls prefabricated metal type, which provide significant energy savings and increased comfort of the surgical team and patients. The developed solution is intended to separate the role of the ventilation system from that of the heating system, delegated to the radiant walls. In this way the air introduced into the environment is only used as primary air. In addition to greater comfort, the low thermal powers required for the functioning of radiant systems also ensure a high energy saving compared to the all-air systems.
